The four-time Formula One champion started from pole after a wild qualifying round on Saturday, holding a steady lead from the start in Baku.

"This weekend was amazing for us ... the last race was strong, but winning here again feels truly special," said Verstappen, who last triumphed in Baku in 2022, during his post-race comments.

"It went smoothly. This track is tough - the wind today kept the car on edge. But honestly, Im overjoyed with how we performed."

Despite a tough season by his high standards, with his Monza win being his first since May, the Red Bull driver is now showing top form.

McLarens Costly Mistakes

Oscar Piastri Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025

Drivers championship leader Oscar Piastri had a rough day, forced to watch most of the race from the sidelines after crashing early on lap one.

Starting ninth after a qualifying mishap, the Australian faltered right away on Sunday. He jumped the start, stopped abruptly, fell to last, and then hit the wall at turn five.

His rare errors gave McLaren teammate Lando Norris a chance to close the points gap, but the Brit couldnt seize it fully.

Norris, who nearly crashed in qualifying, began in seventh. A slow pit stop on lap 38 crushed his slim podium hopes, leaving him stuck in seventh.

McLarens poor showing from both drivers meant they missed a shot at the constructors championship title.

Mercedes and Williams Stand Out

Mercedes had a strong day, with George Russell pushing through illness to take second and 19-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli grabbing fourth.

Carlos Sainz completed the podium, earning Williams its first top-three finish since 2021. He called it the highlight of his career.
